To the next generation of Nintendo game consoles comes the Nintendo Wii. An altogether highly improved package crammed full of updated interesting features, all in a stylish and diminutive case.
Nintendo Wii could be seen as a somewhat rediculous name to put for some gaming console, but it does have many things going for it. As explained by Nintendo manufacturer, the Wii, pronounced as "we", denotes that the game console is for everyone. As well as the fact that it is universally remembered and recognised, and has a distinctive "ii" to indicate the unique gaming controllers that exist for the Nintendo Wii. Not only that, how much you criticise the Wii name, you will surely always remember it.
The Nintendo Wii game console, is small and discrete just the size of three DVD cases stacked on top of each other, ideal for the home users rather than the bulky and overwhelming solution by its competitors, the PS3 by Sony and the Xbox 360 by Microsoft.
The amazing feature of the Nintendo Wii is its unusual game controller. Known as the "Wiimote", it has inbuilt motion sensors that enables game lovers to input directly with the wave of the controller (e.g. used in golf, tennis or fishing). The controller Wiimote also plays sound and includes force feedback, allowing the players to experience realtime rumbles, to mimic feelings experienced during the play. If required, the Wii’s Wiimote can be hooked up with to an analog stick, making the Wii controller working as "Nunchuck controller".
The Nintendo Wii will have a latest free online gaming feature, but it is not in place at the moment and will only be available with certain games. The first game to use this multi player online game feature will be “Pokemon Battle Revolution” when it's released on 25th June.
An additional feature to the Nintendo Wii is its “latest virtual console” software, which enables the game lovers to use a updated download service to play retro console games from such consoles as the SNES, NES, N64, Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), NEC TurboGrafx-16 etc. These can be stored on flash memory cards usually 512 MB which is enough for a collection of games beside this a hard drive can be plugged in via USB port if more storage is necessary. Furthermore, the Nintendo Wii has backwards compatibility with “GameCube” games making it easy for GameCube discs to be placed directly in to the Wii console.
One downside to the Nintendo Wii game console is its maximum resolution of only 480p, which is quite lower than the resolution of the Sony PS3 (1080p) and to a lesser extent the Microsoft Xbox 360 (1080i). Also the speed of the Console CPU is lower than its rivals.
